There is a secret in our culture,

And it's not that childbirth is painful,

It's that women are strong.

Childbirth Education Services

Childbirth education should encompass a number of topics and skills, teaching new parents options, decision-making skills, resources, coping techniques for labor and postpartum, as well as how to prepare for new parenthood and the changes a relationship undergoes after a new baby is born into a family. I believe education in childbirth should be dynamic, using a number of learning techniques so parents may leave with tools and confidence to make birth decisions they will be satisfied with afterwards.

I am a proponent of natural birth and believe that in most cases, natural birth is best for mother and baby. I also understand that every birth is different and many are made more satisfying or safer by utilizing medical interventions. It is one of my goals to give students an understanding of medical interventions and options so they will feel more informed when faced with the decisions of late pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. It is my wish that every mother would feel her decisions were made by her, not pushed upon her, and that she made the right decisions for her at the time.

At this time, I am offering private childbirth education in the home setting. Your classes will include customized sessions wherein we will discuss physiology of pregnancy and childbirth, relaxation techniques for birth and parenting, caring for a newborn, caring for yourself and your relationship as a new parent, and explore your feelings about birth and parenting. My classes draw from many resources and philosophies including those of Ina May Gaskin, Pam England, Robert Bradley, Lamaze International, La Leche League, and my own experiences with anxiety-control, parenting, and natural childbirth. My coping techniques are many, focusing primarily on body relaxation, visualization and meditation, massage, support, understanding what is happening, and creating a sense of wellbeing.

If you are searching for a childbirth experience in which you have continuity from education to birth to postpartum, I also offer combination private classes with doula services.

Please call or email for more information.
